Israel impidió el acceso al territorio cisjordano del profesor Noam Chomsky, quien tenía previsto pronunciar mañana una conferencia en la Universidad palestina de Bir-Zeit.
El renombrado académico judío del Instituto de Tecnología de Massachussetts (MIT), conocido por sus posturas críticas contra Israel, fue retenido ayer domingo durante cinco horas en el cruce de Allenby, controlado por las fuerzas de ocupación Israelíes, entre Jordania y el territorio palestino de Cisjordania, para que finalmente se le negara la entrada al territorio.
"Aparentemente no les gustó el hecho de que daría una conferencia en una universidad palestina y no en Israel", dijo Chomsky.
"Es un comportamiento muy inusual que sólo ocurre en Estados totalitarios", dijo acusando el acto de Isarel como un "acto que interfiere en la independencia de la universidad".
El anfitrión palestino de Chomsky, el legislador Mustafa al-Barghouti, dijo que el profesor de lingüística y filósofo iba a dar una conferencia en la Universidad Birzeit y en el Instituto de Estudios Palestinos de Ramallah en Cisjordania.
En la conferencia de prensa a Reuters, Mustafa Barghouti dijo que la prohibición israelí constituye "una acción fascista, que equivale a la supresión de la libertad de expresión".
Así como Noam Chomsky existen decenas de intelectuales judíos que han levantado la voz en contra de las políticas racistas de Israel en contra del pueblo palestino y que han sido vetados por el gobierno sionista como Shlomo Sand, Naomi Klein, Illan Pape y Norman Finkelstein, entre otros.
